The SheSTEMS initiative of Karen Davila’s Her Legacy Project has launched its first cohort of female scholars, in partnership with the University of the Philippines (UP). This program aims to empower outstanding young women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by providing financial support, mentorship, and networking opportunities.
SheSTEMS scholars each receive at least PHP 120,000 annually until graduation, ensuring they have the resources needed to excel in their studies.
The SheSTEMS Scholarship Awards promote gender equality in STEM, where women have been historically underrepresented. Karen Davila, UN Women National Goodwill Ambassador and creator of Her Legacy Project and SheSTEMS, emphasizes the importance of women empowerment, stating, “Because it affects all of us.”

SheSTEMS is dedicated to changing the prevailing situation of women making up only 3 out of 10 STEM workers in the Philippines, and many aspiring leaders facing challenges that lead them to shift courses.
“By supporting these talented young women, we’re investing in a future where diversity fuels innovation and progress,” states the Her Legacy Project website. ‘Through the SHESTEMS Scholarship Awards, we aim to develop female role models in the STEM industry and cultivate an environment where more women and girls will be leaders in various STEM fields.”
The selection process for the scholarship was rigorous, with scholars chosen for their academic achievements, resilience, and commitment to using their STEM knowledge to benefit their communities and contribute to global progress.
