Popular video-sharing app TikTok is challenging users especially Filipino youth to display Pinoy Science and Technology know-how in two new contests.
The Tiktok partnership with the Department of Science and Technology Research and Development – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) launched new TikTok Challenges on January 26, 2021.
DOST-PCIEERD will run the contests on the TikTok account @pinoyscience as part of its social media campaign to promote learning science and technology to the general public.
The two new TikTok Challenges will award PHP 20,000 to the winners.
#PinoyInnovator hashtag challenge
The #PinoyInnovator hashtag challenge asks Filipinos to showcase their creativity and resourcefulness using common household items to develop innovation.
The winners of the challenge will be hailed as the “Pinoy Science Innovator 2021.” The contest runs until April 2021.
#PinoyScience hashtag challenge
The #PinoyScience hashtag challenge asks TikTok users to explain the science behind DOST PCIEERD’s supported scientific projects.
The #PinoyScience hashtag challenge will run from April to July 2021. Three winners will be announced every month starting May 2021.
The DOST-PCIEERD and TikTok collaboration will also have the short-video platform provide training for researchers on how to use TikTok for science communication and promotion of Filipino technologies while guiding the council on how to conduct contests for the Filipino TikTok community.
In its efforts to provide solutions to the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020, the DOST presented 10 Filipino innovations for the new normal during its R&D conference and more showcase innovations at the National Science & Technology virtual fair.
