The Philippines’ teen tennis star Alexandra “Alex” Eala has sealed a spot in the quarterfinals at the 2020 French Open girls’ singles in Paris.
The World no. 4 tennis sensation defeated Leyre Romero Gormaz of Spain scoring 6-1, 4-6, 6-1 in a game that lasted for an hour and 48 minutes on October 7, 2020.
The 15-year-old athlete cleared the 1st set of the game but Gormaz recovered in the 2nd. However, Eala fought harder and dominated the final set, earning her the coveted spot in the quarterfinals.
Eala’s feat against Gormaz adds to her recent victories as she won the main draw debut match at French Open against Hungary’s Natalia Szabanin and edged Mara Guth of Germany on their head-to-head match on October 6.
The young tennis sensation will next face Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic on October 8, 2020, for a seat in the semifinals.
Prior to the French Open, Alex Eala ruled her 1st tennis competition amid the lockdown in Spain and won 1st pro match at the Women’s Futures in Tunisia.
