Team Philippines bannered by Neon Esports crushed Team Vietnam in the Grand Finals of the 1st Razer SEA Invitational’s Dota 2 event held exclusively online.
Team Philippines bested more than 400 teams from 10 Southeast Asian countries for the Razer SEA Invitational held from June 26 to July 12, 2020.
The Filipino gamers team of five, comprised of Esports athletes PlayHard, Rappy, Skem, Yopaj, and Jaunuel, went up against Vietnam’s 496 Gaming for a best-of-five grand finals series which wrapped up in favor of Team Philippines, 3-2.
The finals game lasted 30 minutes, with the aggressive Neon Esports going against their opponent with a 62-22 kill difference.
On announcing their win on their Facebook page, the Neon Esports team said, “Maraming salamat po sa lahat ng supporta. Isang karangalan ang irepresenta ang bansa natin. Laban Pilipinas[!]”
The winning ten teams in this contest will earn their prizes from a prize pool of $5000 USD and select Razer Gear.
This year was the first year the Razer SEA Invitational was held, and it was played exclusively online. Involved are the games Dota 2, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.
As of this writing, Neon Esports is playing in the ONE Esports Dota 2 SEA League.
Philippine Esports athletes are thriving in their fields. In June’s FIBA Esports Open South East Asia Conference, E-Gilas Philippine teams went for a 5-game sweep of its finals series against Team Indonesia.
In 2019, Team Philippines grabbed the first-ever SEA Games gold for the eSports event’s debut in the 30th edition of the biennial meet.
