Taguig’s own math prodigy, Kalel Elijah A. Lontok, has risen above the ranks to become the Overall Champion at the 19th International Mathematics Competition (IMC) in Singapore. Lontok, a bright scholar at the Senator Renato ‘Compañero’ Cayetano Memorial Science and Technology High School in Taguig City, led Team Philippines to an impressive victory. His triumph spearheaded a haul of 42 medals and awards for the Philippines, underscoring the nation’s prowess in mathematical problem-solving.
Mathematics Trainers’ Guild Philippines reported the Filipino students’ achievement at the global event among 11 nations, held from July 27 to July 30, 2023, at the Institute of Technical Education Singapore (ITE Central), where Lontok’s exceptional mathematical aptitude and his immense potential secured him an Overall Champion Gold Medal in the Grade 7 Level.
In addition to Lontok’s Gold, Team Philippines bagged 4 more Gold Medals, exhibiting top-tier problem-solving abilities. The Golden Mathletes were:
- Eunice J. Gaerlan (Grade 3, BHC Educational Institution, Inc.)
- Carlo Santino Aceret (Grade 4, Saint Jude Catholic School)
- Savannah Lucia Sabeen M. De Guzman (Grade 4, St. Paul College Pasig)
- Armea Helena Sien G. Dimayacyac (Grade 11, Philippine Science High School – Main Campus)
Not just stopping at Gold, the Philippine contingent clinched 8 Silver Medals as well, marking a testament to their unwavering dedication and relentless hard work. The Silver laureates hailed from a diverse range of schools including:
