The SM Store has relaunched its Shop & Share for Education program to encourage people to sponsor back-to-school kits for Filipino public school students for the academic year 2024-2025.
Running from July 1-31, 2024, the initiative targets the distribution of school kits to 12,000 grade school pupils across more than 70 public schools nationwide.
Shoppers who make a minimum single-receipt purchase of PHP3,000 can sponsor a child’s school kit for just PHP100. Each kit includes notebooks, pad paper, pencils, ball pens, envelopes, and bond paper.
In its second year, Shop & Share for Education addresses the critical issue of access to basic school supplies in the Philippines.
The Department of Education reported over 22 million students enrolled in public schools for the 2023-2024 school year. However, a Save the Children Philippines report highlighted that many students in remote areas lack even the most basic supplies.
Last year’s initiative benefited 20 schools nationwide through partnerships with various NGOs and local government units. The success of the first Shop & Share program demonstrated SM Store’s potential as a platform for collaborative social good, leveraging its extensive reach. This year, each SM Store will adopt one school beneficiary.
“Everyone is encouraged to pitch in by adding the school kit to the list on the next shopping trip this July,” said an SM Store representative. “Each sponsored school kit means an enriched learning experience for a school child in need today, who will one day become a steward of a better future.”
SM Store emphasizes that customer involvement amplifies the program’s impact. With the sponsorship of a school kit, shoppers contribute to enhancing the educational experience of Filipino children in need.
