Filipina pop star Sarah Geronimo has been hailed a Global Force at the 2024 Billboard Women In Music Awards, marking a historic moment for the Philippines. Geronimo stood out among international talents as she received the inaugural Billboard Global Force Award alongside the world’s best music artists.
Sarah Geronimo is the first homegrown Filipina to be honored at the Billboard Awards event. The Global Force Award, introduced this year, acknowledges artists who have made a significant impact worldwide with Sarah proudly representing Filipino talent alongside Brazil’s Luísa Sonza and Italy’s Annalisa.
Geronimo personally accepted the Global Force Award at the ceremony held earlier today, March 7, PhST (March 6 US Time) at the YouTube Theater in California.
At the event, Geronimo delivered a poignant acceptance speech, dedicating her award to Filipino artists worldwide: “I humbly accept this award on behalf of every excellent Filipino artist back home and all over the world.”
She articulated the award’s significance, associating it with courage, hope, and the transformative power of music: “For me, this recognition signifies courage and hope. Courage to accept and embrace one’s self and the courage to break boundaries and rise above all the setbacks and challenges that every artist needs to face.
“And the hope that one day, this meaningful moment will bridge the gap between the Philippines and other nations, collaborating, uniting as one to create change and positivity in the world through music.”
She ended her speech speaking in the Filipino language: “Muli, ako si Sarah Geronimo, isang Filipina. Maraming salamat po, mabuhay ang OPM. Thank you, Billboard.”
(“Once again I am Sarah Geronimo, a Filipina. Thank you, Long live OPM. Thank you, Billboard.”)
