A teenage national champion who hails from Odiongan, Romblon province finished the 35th Singapore National Age Group Chess Championships Boys 14 and Under division at joint first place.
Fourteen-year-old Jasper Concepcion Faeldonia of Arellano University tied with a Singapore player in the tournament held at the Singapore Sports Hub and which wrapped up just two days before the end of 2018.
Faeldonia, the 2018 Philippine Age Group Under 14-champion, tied with top seed Sean Christian Goh of Singapore for a total of 7 points in eight outings in the Boys Under-14.
However, after the tie break points was applied, Goh took the title with a superior 38 tie break points against 36 points of Faeldonia who became vice champion, reported Marlon Bernardino in the Official National Chess Federation of the Philippines social media post.
Meanwhile, another Filipino placed 3rd in his Boys 10 and Under division. Ten-year-old Jayson Jacobo Tiburcio won his final match against Guan Yi Randall Yong of Singapore to finish with 6 points in eight outings. Tiburcio is a Primary 5 pupil at Fernvale Primary School in Singapore.
The Filipino young chess winners, Jasper Concepcion Faeldonia and Jayson Jacobo Tiburcio, represented the Philippines in the 35th Singapore Chess Federation tournament.
