Filipino journalist Rico Hizon’s “The Final Word” television news program on CNN Philippines continued its winning streak at the 27th Asian Television Awards (ATA) which recognizes the region’s programming, production, and talent excellence.
Hizon’s nightly newscast on Philippine TV was again named the Best News Programme by the ATA in Singapore, repeating its win of the same award in 2021.
The Senior Anchor at CNN Philippines was awarded during the second day of the ATA held at Resorts World Sentosa in Singapore held on December 9, 2022.
The Philippines’ “The Final Word” won over News Programming nominees from China, India, and Thailand.
“From the men and women of CNN Philippines—we thank you for your support. We promise to continue giving you news you can use, news you can trust,” Rico Hizon announced the show’s win during his December 9 newscast.

Rico Hizon previously made history as the first Filipino to win an ATA, receiving the award in 2017 for “Newsday”, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) World News program he co-anchored live in Singapore with Babita Sharma in London.
Hizon came home to the Philippines in 2020 after 25 years as an international broadcast journalist based in Singapore and London – the first Filipino news anchor to have worked for two of the world’s most prestigious television news networks – CNBC Asia and BBC World News.
Rico Hizon also hosts the weekly CNN Philippines business program, “The Exchange”.
