The North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Harbor Link Malabon Exit C3-R10 Section that opens today is expected to reduce travel time to just 10 minutes for motorists bound for the Sea Port Area in Manila.
The section starts from the Caloocan Interchange in Caloocan City to Radial Road 10 (R-10) in Navotas City and is expected to decrease the travel time from over an hour to just 10 minutes.
The section connects to the previously opened 5.65-kilometer NLEX Harbor Link Segment 10 that passes through Karuhatan, Valenzuela City, Governor Pascual Avenue in Malabon City, and 5th Avenue/C3 Roa in Caloocan City.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) project addresses transport logistics and provides an alternative route for motorists bypassing EDSA and other busy Metro Manila streets.
“Once opened, travel time between C3 and NLEX will take approximately 10 minutes and around 30,000 vehicles are expected to use this road,” DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said in the NLEX report published February 12, 2020.
Villar, together with NLEX Chief Operating Officer Raul Ignacio, conducted a final inspection of the said project on February 14, 2020 ahead of the scheduled formal opening today.
“We are anticipating that truckers and freight forwarders will greatly benefit from this new road since their cargo trucks will have 24/7 access, and in turn, translate to faster delivery of goods to and from the provinces in North and Central Luzon,” Ignacio said in a PNA report.
The DPWH road project also involves the 21.65-km extension of the NLEX from Mindanao Avenue, Quezon City to the C-3 (Circumferential Road 3) in Caloocan City and to Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City.
The new Caloocan Interchange — a fourth port of NLEX to Manila Metro after Balintawak, Mindanao Avenue and Karuhatan — will also be partially opened with the complete opening of the NLEX Harbor Connection Segment10.
This Caloocan Interchange will act as the point of convergence between the NLEX Harbor Connection Segment 10, the C3-R-10 segment and the NLEX Connector. This junction is located along the PNR tracks at Caloocan City’s 5th Avenue / C3 lane.
More Metro Manila road projects constructed by the DPWH that are expected to reduce travel time around the metro include the BGC-Ortigas road link and the Skyway SLEX-NLEX Connector road.
