Four students from the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) – Main Campus, PSHS – Central Luzon Campus, and De La Salle University (DLSU) Integrated School Senior High School (SHS) Manila, will be representing the Philippines in this year’s International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) to be held in China.
The students were chosen as the country’s delegates to the annual competition for the world’s most talented chemistry pupils after winning gold medals in the 21st Philippine National Chemistry Olympiad (PNCO) held in March 2022.
The Philippine team is comprised of the national olympiad’s gold medalists Anne Maricar Maralit and Ron Angelo Gelacio of PSHS – Main Campus, Lemuel Acosta of PSHS – Central Luzon Campus, and Aames Juriel Morales of DLSU Integrated School SHS Manila.
Gelacio and Morales both represented the Philippines in last year’s IChO in Japan, winning silver and bronze medals, respectively.
The Filipino chemistry wizards are also this year’s recipients of the Alex Tardaguila Award, established in memory of the late Filipino chemist and awarded annually to delegates of the Philippines’ IChO team since 2020.
The Philippine National Chemistry Olympiad (PNCO) is managed by the Philippine Federation of Chemistry Societies, Inc. (or PFCS). It serves as the venue for identifying high school students who will represent the Philippines in the annual International Chemistry Olympiad.
