Pilipinas Ultimate Mixed Team successfully defended the country’s Asia Oceanic Ultimate and Guts Championship (AOUGC) title, winning the gold against Japan in the regional tournament held in China.
The Philippines’ flying disc mixed-gender team was declared the back-to-back champion in the Mixed Division of the World Flying Disc Federation 2019 Asia Oceanic Ultimate and Guts Championships after trouncing the Japanese team, 12-7, in the finals game held July 27.
The Pilipinas Ultimate Mixed Team faced Japan in the 2019 AOUGC after sweeping its 7 games in the series held from July 23 to 27 at the Shanghai Community Sports Club in Shanghai Gaohang Sunland, participated by over 525 athletes from 11 countries.
In the same tourney, the Pilipinas Ultimate Women’s Team bagged the bronze while the Pilipinas Ultimate Men’s Team finished in fourth place.
Prior to the Shanghai games, the 3 Pilipinas Ultimate teams all made podium finishes with 2 golds and 1 bronze at the 2019 Asia Oceanic Beach Ultimate Championships in Shirahama, Japan.
The 2019 AOUGC championship team of Pilipinas Ultimate is a mixed team composed of most members of the 2015 Dubai AOUGC gold-winning team, with core membership from the Pilipino Club Sunken Pleasure (SP) based in the University of the Philippines Diliman, and new members from Visayas and Mindanao. The mixed team champions roster has players from Palawan, Bukidnon, Pampanga, Iligan, General Santos, Leyte, Dumaguete, Cebu, and Metro Manila.
