The Philippines was recognized as Asia’s Leading Dive Destination and Asia’s Leading Beach Destination by the World Travel Awards (WTA) for 2022.
The Asia’s Leading Dive Destination award may very possibly give the Philippines its fourth consecutive win at the World level as it has already claimed its 3-peat win.
The Philippines bested other nominated countries including Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, in the WTA Asia and Oceania Gala Ceremony held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam last September 7.
The pristine shores and clear waters of the archipelago were also recognized as Asia’s Leading Beach Destination for the sixth time besting out India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco expressed delight and honor for the awards bestowed upon the country.
“Having given these awards is such an affirmation to all of our tourism stakeholders and workers who have greatly sacrificed throughout the pandemic,” Secretary Frasco said in a video message sent to WTA organizers.
Palawan’s exclusive and highly-regarded Amanpulo Island is yet again Asia’s Leading Private Island Resort.
The World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward, and celebrate excellence in the travel, tourism, and hospitality industries. Dubbed as the “Oscars” of the Travel Industry by the Wall Street Journal, WTA casts over 2.3 million votes in its online and year-long communications campaign.
The date and venue of the Grand Final Gala Ceremony for the 29th edition have yet to be announced as other regions have not finished their respective awarding. The archipelagic nation may again take home the top traveler choice recognitions from the World Travel Awards.
