Philippines Sets New World Record and Secures 7 Medals at OCR World Championships in Costa Rica

Team Philippines made history at the 2024 Obstacle Course Racing (OCR) World Championships in Costa Rica, securing a new world record and an impressive haul of 7 medals.

The national team ended its campaign on a high note with 1 gold, 4 silvers, and 2 bronzes during the competitions held from August 22 to 25 in San Jose and Doka Estate of the Central American country, showcasing the Philippines’ growing dominance at Obstacle Course Racing on the global stage.

Guinness World Record and World Obstacle Record holder Precious Cabuya delivered the Philippines’ gold medal after dominating the OCR 100m Elite Female event.

The Pinay obstacle racing champion also erased her previous world record and set a new one with her stunning 31.389-second performance in her division.

Meanwhile, four Pinoy athletes clinched silver medals:

  • Mark Julius Rodelas – OCR 100m Elite Male
  • Edris Dizon – OCR 100m Junior Boys
  • Trisha Del Rosario – 100m Junior Girls
  • Gavin Ti – OCR 100m Youth Boys

The team also secured two bronze medals, courtesy of the following:

  • Ahgie Radan – OCR 100m Male
  • Ahgie Radan, Jose Mari De Castro,  Mecca Cortizano, and Precious Cabuya – OCR 100m Mixed Relay Team

Other athletes who made impressive performances include Kevin Pascua who reached fourth place in the OCR 100m Elite division, and Zara Chua who also placed fourth in the OCR 100m Youth Girls category.

Filipino athletes have been making waves and raising the Philippine flag in different international sports competitions.

Recently, the Philippine Olympic Team also made an impressive medal haul in the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, France, taking home two golds in men’s artistic gymnastics and two bronzes in women’s boxing.

Filipino gymnast Carlos Yulo made history by winning double gold medals in Paris 2024 with his astonishing performance in both men’s floor exercise and vault events.

Pinay boxers, Aira Villegas and Nesthy Petecio each bagged the bronze medals from their respective boxing division.
