Filipino American skier Asa Miller will be representing the Philippines as he makes his second straight appearance at the Winter Olympic Games to be held early next year in Beijing, China.
Miller became the country’s lone representative in alpine skiing after meeting the minimum qualification standard for two events. Miller was chosen by the Philippine Ski and Snowboard Federation for the lone country slot after scoring better than fellow minimum standard qualifier 17-year-old Brandon Leitner.
The 21-year-old Miller will be competing in the Winter Olympics Men’s Slalom and Giant Slalom events.
Miller excitedly announced the good news on his official Instagram account.
“I’m extremely excited to announce that I’ll be making my second Olympic appearance in Beijing 2022! Big thank you to everyone who’s helped me on my skiing journey so far,” wrote Asa Miller in an Instagram post on December 21, 2021.
Asa Miller, a native of Portland, Oregon, first took hold of skiing when he was a toddler, and first competed when he was six.
The athlete traces his Filipino heritage to his mother who hails from Santa Cruz, Manila.
Miller and figure skater Michael Martinez represented the Philippines in the 2018 edition of the winter quadrennial meet in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
Asa Miller will vie for the medal as the country’s sole delegate among the around 150 competitors taking part in the slalom and giant slalom events at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 scheduled from February 4 to 20, 2022, in Beijing, China.
