The Philippines’ El Nido in Palawan and Cebu have been listed in Big 7 Travel’s annual ranking of The 50 Best Islands in the World, coming in second and 25th place, respectively.
Palawan came close to bagging the top spot in this year’s list released on July 28, 2021, singled out by the global travel authority for its famed Secret Lagoon which attracts travelers for “its crystal clear water and soft sand.”
“El Nido is a cluster of 45 islands just off the tip of Palawan, which is famous for its Secret Lagoon. Swim through a hole in the limestone rocks to enter a hidden bay with crystal clear water and soft sand,” Big 7 Travel wrote.
“It feels untouched, with white sandy beaches and tropical jungle. As soon as you step foot onto here you’ll instantly agree it’s one of the best islands in the world,” it added.
Cebu, ranked in 25th place, meanwhile earned the praise of the travel website for its “sugar-white beaches, clear emerald waters, hot springs, and several jungle waterfalls.”
The website also recommends visiting the small coastal town of Oslob in Cebu which is one of the Philippines’ most popular places to see and interact with whale sharks.
“Cebu Island is a tropical paradise in The Philippines; made up of Cebu Island and 167 other islands in the Visayas…For an unforgettable experience, you’ll want to head to Oslob on the southern tip of Cebu,” the Big 7 Travel team wrote.
The Big 7 Travel team selected the 50 Best Islands in the World for 2021 list based on aggregated scores from previous media results and contributions from Big 7 Travel editors.
The Philippines’ Palawan islands were previously also feted by Big 7 Travel in its world’s best bucket list places for the new decade beginning 2020 while El Nido’s Secret Lagoon was recently ranked fifth among the 50 Best Beaches in the World.
Cebu Island in the Visayas was named among the “World’s 25 Trending Destinations” in the 2019 and 2020 editions of the Tripadvisor Traveller’s Choice Awards.
