The Philippines’ DK Esports team has conquered the World eSports Challenge (WEC) 2020 in South Korea for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) players.
DK Esports finished first place in the international tournament held from October 31 to November 1, 2020, against 16 teams from Korea, China, Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
The winning Pinoy team bagged the grand prize amounting to 5,000,000 South Korean won or approximately 212,000 in Philippine pesos.
DK Esports is comprised of competitive Filipino PUBG players known in the gaming world as Fruity, Georgyyy, Limitless, and Mastahden from Mindanao.
“We are the World Esports Challenge WEC CHAMPIONS! It’s been a great honor to represent our country in this tournament, we would like to thank you all for your support throughout our 2 day journey,” DK Esports wrote in a Facebook post.
The World eSports Challenge (WEC) 2020 is a global amateur championship hosted by Gyeonggi Province Office and Gyeonggi Content Agency in South Korea with support from Nexon and Ubisoft.
Other Filipino eSports teams have bagged victories in international tournaments.
The University of Santo Tomas (UST) TeleTigers Esports Club won the AcadArena National Cup MLBB Tournament, earning the right to represent the Philippines in the PVP Esports Campus Championships 2020 Asian regionals while Bren Esports’ Arena of Valor (AOV) team placed 2nd in the Axis Esports AOV League.
