The Philippines’ Carlos Edriel Yulo has been named among the six Olympic and World champions headlining the entry list of competitors for the gold medal at the 51st Fédération Internationale Gymnastique Artistic Gymnastics World Championships (FIG Worlds) in Liverpool in England.
The 22-year-old Filipino athlete, who will aim to reclaim his title in the floor exercise, repeat his gold finish in the vault, and improve his silver in the parallel bars, is introduced in the roster as “a two-time world champion who brings difficulty and beauty on all apparatus” with four FIG Worlds medals to his name.
Carlos Yulo made history at the Stuttgart, Germany FIG Worlds in 2019 as the first Southeast Asian male athlete to win a gold medal in the Men’s Floor Exercise, improving on a historic bronze won in 2018 at the Doha, Qatar FIG Worlds event.
Yulo delivered another gold-winning performance in the Men’s Vault Apparatus along with a silver in Men’s Parallel Bars when the FIG Worlds was held in Kitakyushu, Japan in 2021.
The hardworking Yulo packs a mighty punch of difficulty, packaged in artistic precision. When all goes well, he is hard to beat,” states the FIG Worlds Liverpool countdown to the event slated for October 29 to November 6.
The World Gymnastics Championships also described Carlos Yulo as a “superstar” who won 6 individual medals at the Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi earlier this year, with his 15.200 in floor routine now heralded as the world’s highest score in the event.

The Filipino gymnastics star qualified for the upcoming World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool, United Kingdom, after dominating the continental tilt with 3 golds in the floor exercise, vault, and parallel bars, in the competition held in June at the Aspire Dome in Doha, Qatar.
