The Philippines’ Ben&Ben has snagged the title of the Best Band From Asia in this year’s BandLab New Musical Express (NME) Awards.
The folk-pop band emerged as the only Filipino act among the winners of the all-new Asia categories of the awards returning after a year-long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ben&Ben beat out fellow Asia nominees such as Indonesian supergroup Lomba Sihir, Kelantan-based punk rockers No Good, Indonesian duo Senyawa, and Singaporean band Subsonic Eye.
“WE WON BEST ASIAN BAND AT THE BANDLAB NME MUSIC AWARDS,” Ben&Ben wrote in a Facebook post on January 19, 2022.
The annual awards by iconic music publication NME, sponsored by leading social music creation platform BandLab, introduced brand-new Asia-only categories this year to recognize the best of Southeast Asian talent.
Ben&Ben and all the other winners in the Asia categories will next compete in the BandLab NME Awards‘ equivalent global categories slated this 2022.
Ben&Ben’s latest album “Pebble House, Vol 1: Kuwaderno” was also nominated for Best Album By An Asian Artist, alongside fellow Filipino musician Zild. The category was eventually won by Singaporean act Subsonic Eye’s “Nature Of Things” album.
Other nominees from the Philippines included Zild (Best Album By An Asian Artist, Best Solo Act From Asia) and Reese Lansangan (Best Solo Act From Asia).
Ben&Ben was named the 34th Awit Awards’ Most-Streamed Artist and late January this year performed in a live concert at the Dubai Expo.
