Philippines bags 3 golds at Muaythai World Championships Thailand

The Philippines’ Team Bagsik has bagged six medals and other awards, including three golds in the recently concluded International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA) World Muaythai Championships in Thailand.

The Philippine national Muaythai team won a total of 3 golds, 1 silver, and 2 bronze medals in the competitions held at the National Stadium in Bangkok from December 3 to 12, 2021.

Filipino Muaythai fighters Phillip Delarmino and Islay Erika Bomogao led the country’s national delegation to the championships by winning gold medals each in their respective categories and the mixed mai muay event.

The Muaythai Association of the Philippines (MAP) also won the prestigious Federation of the Year award for their continuous programs for athletes, while young Filipino athlete Clark Fattit was named Youth Ambassador for the 2021 IFMA Virtual World Championships.

The Filipino athletes competed amongst the world’s best for the chance to book slots at the 2022 World Games in Birmingham, Alabama.

Here are the Filipino Muaythai players who won medals at the 2021 IFMA World Muaythai Championships:

GOLD

  1. Phillip Delarmino (57kgs Senior Elite Male)
  2. Islay Erika Bomogao (Waikru Female)
  3. Phillip Delarmino and Islay Erika Bomogao (Coed Mai Muay)

SILVER

  1. Aldrich Toralba (Waikru Male)

BRONZE

  1. Islay Erika Bomogao (U23 45kgs Elite Female)
  2. Rudzma Abubakar (U23 48kgs Elite Female)

Team Bagsik’s world-renowned Muaythai fighters also reaped 3 golds at the 2019 East Asian Muaythai Championships.

Teams who recently harvested medals for the Philippines include the National Poomsae team which won 10 medals and special awards in the 6th World Taekwondo Asia Poomsae Championships and the Filipino youth para-athletes who secured the country’s best medal finish at the Asian Youth Para Games (AYPG) in the recent regional games held in Manama, Bahrain.
