🇵🇭 Team Philippines at the 2025 SEA Games: What’s at Stake
The 33rd Southeast Asian Games are being held in Thailand from December 9 to 20, 2025, with competitions taking place primarily in Bangkok and Chonburi. The regional multi-sport event brings together athletes from 11 Southeast Asian nations across a wide range of disciplines.
For the Philippines, this edition marks a significant milestone. The country has fielded its largest-ever delegation to the SEA Games, with more than 1,500 Filipino athletes competing in athletics, aquatics, combat sports, gymnastics, racket sports, rowing, team events, and emerging disciplines.
The Philippines is aiming to build on its performance at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, where the country finished fifth overall with a total of 260 medals—58 gold, 86 silver, and 116 bronze. The depth of the 2025 lineup reflects a broader push to strengthen grassroots development and sustain elite-level performances across sports.
Among the notable Filipino athletes competing this year are Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo, tennis standout Alexandra Eala, and world-class pole vaulter Ernest John “EJ” Obiena, who has already secured a gold medal early in the Games.
