The Philippines’ tennis champion Alexandra “Alex” Eala is all set to debut in her first-ever Grand Slam professional tournament at the Australian Open this January.
Alex Eala shared news of her joining the Qualifying Rounds of the 2023 Australian Open in Melbourne where she will vie to face the world’s best tennis players, competing for more than AUD $100 million in prize money this summer.
“I made the cut for the Qualifying Rounds of the Australian Open 2023 in Melbourne! This will be my first match ever in the pro-level of a Grand Slam,” Eala announced on Facebook in late December 2022.

The 17-year-old athlete has three Girls’ Grand Slam titles to her credit including the 2022 US Open Juniors Girls Singles, the 2021 French Open Juniors Girls Doubles, and the 2020 Australian Open Girls Doubles.
Alex Eala starts the year in 215th place in the Women’s Tennis Association ranking, zooming closer to the top 100 just two years after she started playing professional tournaments in 2020.
Alex Eala will play in the 2023 Australian Open Qualifying Rounds on January 9.
