The Philippines’ short track speed skaters took home a total of 7 medals including a gold in the recently concluded 2020 Southeast Asian (SEA) Open Short Track Trophy in Singapore.
Female Speed Skater Xsandrie Guimba bagged 4 medals:
* 1 gold medal in the 2000m Relay Mixed Senior-Junior B event
* 3 bronze medals in Junior B Ladies 500m, 1000m, 1500m event
Male Speed Skaters Yuki Hanashima Jr. and Hans Buemio won silver medals in 2000m Junior C-E Relay event. Hanashima won a bronze medal in Junior C Boys 500m event.
Singapore’s first and only Olympic-size ice skating rink, The Rink, hosted the event in support of Singapore Ice Skating Association’s effort to develop Southeast Asian short track athletes,
The Southeast Asian Open Short Track Trophy is sanctioned by both the International Skating Union and the Asian Skating Union (ASU). A total of 149 skaters from 14 countries competed at the SEA Open Trophy on January 4 and 5.
This is the team’s first international exposure for this year. The Facebook post of Philippines Skating Union – PHSU and Philippine Short Track Speed Skating Team congratulating the team was flooded by congratulatory messages from the speed skaters’ fans.
Another Pinoy bet, Julian Macaraeg, is gearing up for his stint as the first Filipino short track speed skater at the Lausanne 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Switzerland next week.
Filipino alpine skier Ana Wahleithner, the first Filipina alpine skier at the Winter YOG, carried the Philippine flag at the Lausanne 2020 Winter YOG Opening Ceremonies held on January 9.
