Philippine Science High School (PSHS) students won top honors for showcasing their innovative solutions to real-life problems at the 10th ASEAN Student Science Project Competition (ASPC 2024) held at the National Science Museum in Thailand.
PSHS Main Campus students Mayreen Angela Habal, Laurice Reign Lanto, and Mackenzie Kobe Gabriel San Agustin won the First Prize. PSHS Ilocos Region Campus students Gean Draexi Corpuz, Arianne Gayle Laeno, and Sidney Lawrence Mendiola secured the 2nd Runner-Up (3rd Prize) spot at the regional competition held from July 2 to 7 in Pathum Thani.

Habal and Lanto’s presentation of their science project, “Investigation of Enhanced Stability and Drug Release of Chitosan-Alginate Nanoparticles Conjugated with Hexametaphosphate for Drug Delivery,” earned First Prize in the Applied Science Category.
Corpuz and Laeno’s presentation of their research, “Molecular Detection of Antibiotic-resistant Gastrointestinal Bacteria from Broiler Chicken ( ) in Dingras, Ilocos Norte,” won 2nd Runner-Up in the Biological Sciences category, along with the Gold Award and Most Popular Research Award.
The competition featured 150 participants from Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Cambodia, and the Philippines.
These achievements mirror the previous year’s success of PSHS Central Visayas Campus students who secured the same placements for their science projects at the ASPC.
The annual ASEAN Student Science Project Competition, launched in 2015 by Thailand’s National Science Museum and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, in collaboration with the Science Society of Thailand under the Patronage of His Majesty the King, aims to enhance students’ 21st-century skills through science projects and foster friendships within the ASEAN network.
PSHS students have been bringing honors to the country from global tilts such as the International Geography Olympiad and International Mathematical Olympiad.
