Philippine Robotics National Team Triumphs at World Robot Olympiad 2024: Italy and Turkiye Victories

Philippine Robotics National Team celebrates victory at the World Robot Olympiad 2024 in Italy and Turkiye, showcasing Filipino talent with multiple awards in global robotics competitions. Photos from FELTA.

The Philippine Robotics National Team marked a banner year in 2024 with outstanding performances at two major World Robot Olympiad (WRO) events, showcasing Filipino ingenuity and engineering talent on the global stage.

Victory in Italy

At the WRO Italy Open Championship held in September in Brescia, the team excelled against competitors from 41 countries, achieving several prestigious awards:

  • 2nd Place in Robomission Junior High School: JAper Memorial High School, DepEd-Bohol
  • 4th Place in Robomission Senior High School: Columban College Barreto, Olongapo
  • Impact Award for Future Innovators Junior High School: Dr. Yanga Colleges, Inc., Bulacan
  • Creative Award for Future Innovators Senior High School: Legaspi Science High School, DepEd Bicol
  • Best Presentation for Kids Robomission: Albay Central School, DepEd Bicol

The team’s success was fueled by the support of the Filipino community in Milan and the leadership of Mylene Abiva, WRO Philippines National Organizer and President/CEO of FELTA Multi-Media Inc. who shared, “ This victory is not just for the Philippine Robotics National Team but for the entire nation. To God be the Glory, Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!

Bronze Win in Turkiye

The momentum continued at the WRO Finals in Izmir, Turkiye, from November 25 to December 2, where the team won the Bronze Award for Future Engineers, represented by John Angelo M. Bautista and Joseph Bernard A. Maala of Batangas State University – Integrated School. Competing against 562 teams from 87 countries, their project demonstrated exceptional innovation and engineering skills.

Additionally, the team from DepEd-Bohol’s San Jose National High School – Talibon placed 8th in the Future Innovators Junior High School category with their algae-based carbon dioxide emission solution.

Mylene Abiva, who served as the Head Judge for the Future Innovators Junior High School Category, remarked: “ This award is a testament to the hard work, creativity, and resilience of our young engineers. It highlights the potential of Filipino talent on the international stage, and we are excited to continue nurturing this passion for robotics technology in the Philippines.

Philippine Ambassador to Turkiye Henry Bensurto, who traveled from Ankara to support the team, expressed his admiration for their technical knowledge and creativity.
