Hidden Beach in Palawan, Philippines, has been named among the World’s Best Beaches in the 2020 list released by Condé Nast Traveller (CNT).
The beach in world-famous El Nido was ranked 20th Best Beach in the World in the recommended spots for when people can travel again when the coronavirus pandemic has passed.
“Instead of the typical sandy spots dotted with sun umbrellas and gaggles of tourists, we’ve sought out spaces that you may have to venture a little further for, but that remain incredibly beautiful and very often crowd-free.
“From the most exquisite beaches in Europe to far-flung stretches in Asia, Africa and more, these are the best beaches in the world,” went the introduction by CNT’s Lizzie Pook.
Hidden Beach, previously ranked Top 10 in the 2019 CNT list, was described in the 2020 edition of the World’s Best:
“It’s not quite so hidden any more, but this beach still makes its mark as one of the world’s best. Palawan is filled with pristinely beautiful spots but Hidden Beach – surrounded by imposing limestone cliffs and with startlingly bone-white sand – is separated from the turquoise ocean by a small keyhole-like opening, through which visitors must climb in order to access the lagoon.”
The Department of Tourism – Philippines went on social media on Monday, June 22, 2020, to celebrate Hidden Beach’s inclusion in the list.
“We are elated by this global recognition of one of our beaches from the prestigious publication, Condé Nast Traveller,” said DOT Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat.
“While the world waits for international travel to resume, citations such as these will greatly help keep The Philippines in the bucket lists of travelers everywhere,” the tourism chief added.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic halted travel around the globe, El Nido’s Pangalusian Island won Conde Nast Middle East Gold List Award for the best eco-friendly resort hotels of 2020.
The Philippines was also named as one of the “Rising Stars in Travel” by Forbes Magazine among the countries that “have potential to become major tourist destinations in a post-Covid world.”
