Overseas Filipinos are leading Philippine Independence Day celebrations outside the country as the nation marks the 122nd anniversary of the Proclamation of Independence on June 12, 2020.
Carrying the theme “Kalayaan 2020: Tungo sa Bansang Malaya, Nagbabayanihan, at Ligtas (Kalayaan 2020: Towards a Free, United, and Safe Nation)”, the country’s usual festivities in the Philippines and around the world will be simpler and restricted to fewer participants in line with health and safety protocols amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
CANADA FESTIVAL
The Philippine Days Festival in Canada that usually brings up to 20,000 participants has been moved to an online celebration with a month-long program called “30 Songs in 30 Days” where they host daily performances of songs that are culturally significant for the Filipino. The performances will run from June 1-30 on the Philippine Days Facebook page in this link.
UNITED STATES CEREMONIES
Those in the United States and Caribbean can view a flag ceremony and special messages from government officials according to time zones, as posted by the Philippine Embassy in Washington through this link.
The Philippines International Day Council in New York City is also offering a Facebook live stream at 10AM Eastern Standard Time with celebrity performances and messages, accessed here.

In the Middle East, Filipinos in Dubai and the Northern Emirates can look forward to an online broadcast from 12NN and onwards, organized by Kalayaan 2020 DNE. In between performances by cultural productions, schools, and celebrities will be live announcers and give-aways. View here.

Simultaneous flag raising and wreath laying are scheduled in several historical sites across the country with live streaming from the NHCP Facebook Page here and television coverage from PTV4 and RTVM.
The Iloilo Live Events Alliance, meanwhile, will hold a 3-part livestream by 6PM showcasing Ilonggo productions to commemorate Independence Day.
