“On The Job: The Missing 8” starring John Arcilla, Dennis Trillo, and Dante Rivero has been selected as the Philippines’ official entry to the 95th annual Academy Awards next year.
Filipino director Erik Matti’s sociopolitical thriller film is the follow-up to the award-winning 2013 crime thriller “On The Job”. Inspired by true events, the sequel follows a radio journalist, Sisoy, portrayed by Arcilla, in a time of corruption and media censorship in the Philippines.
The film was announced by the Film Development Council of the Philippines as the country’s official submission for the Best International Feature Film category for the 2023 Oscars.
The acclaimed crime thriller had its worldwide premiere in September 2021 as the lone Asian production to compete at the 78th Venice International Film Festival in Italy. Its lead star, John Arcilla, became the first Filipino to win the Volpi Cup for Best Actor.
Matti’s film was also released as part of an HBO Asia Original Series that is also nominated for the Best TV Movie/Mini-Series for the 50th International Emmy Awards in November.
The Filipino movie recently won national awards at the Asian Academy Creative Awards and was named Best Film at the 19th edition of the Asian Film Festival held in Rome, Italy.
The winners of the 95th Oscars will be honored on March 12, 2023, at an awards ceremony to be held at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.
