Philippine cinema’s Nora Aunor will have her multi-awarded film “Tuos” streaming soon on Netflix.
Though there is no release date yet, the Tuos Facebook page teased to its followers today, July 31, 2020, that the Pinoy film will be soon available on the popular American movie streaming website.
The successful independent Filipino film, top-billed by Nora Aunor and GMA Network Primetime Princess Barbie Forteza, tells the story of an old “binukot” – a kept maiden of Panay Bukidnon tribe in Panay island – who needs to choose between keeping the age-old tradition alive by passing her position to her granddaughter or letting the young lady to decide for her own life.
Tuos was an official entry at the 2016 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival where it emerged as the biggest winner after taking home major awards such as Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Sound, Best Original Music Score, and Audience Choice Feature Film.
Right after its successful run in Cinemalaya 2016, the movie was chosen to be one of the four Filipino films to represent the Philippines in Estonia in Eastern Europe and competed at the 20th Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival.
From October to November 2017, the Cinemalaya movie entry directed by Derick Cabrido had its international screening following its inclusion at the International Perspective Section of the Mostra Internacional de Cinema / São Paulo International Film Festival in Brazil.
In 2019, Nora Aunor’s TV series The Way To Your Heart (Onanay) was a big hit in the international scene.
Cinemalaya will have its first online festival beginning in August 2020.
More Filipino films that highlight Philippine history and culture have been made available on Netflix such as the critically acclaimed movie “Heneral Luna” starring seasoned actor John Arcilla in 2018 and “Goyo Ang Batang Heneral (The Boy General)” top-billed by Paulo Avelino in 2019.
