Popular Filipino actor John Lloyd Cruz has been honored as an Asian Star at the 15 th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) Awards.
Cruz was recognized as a Star Asia awardee for his portrayal of the lead role in the crime-drama thriller “Honor Thy Father,” a film by Erik Matti.
“Honor Thy Father” tells the story of the family of Edgar (Cruz) and Kaye (Meryll Soriano) who falls prey to a fraudulent investment operation and amasses huge debts. The couple seeks to pay off the debt but becomes fearful of a kidnapping for ransom threat on their daughter.
Cruz, acknowledged as a film and television box-office hitmaker in the Philippines, is the first Southeast Asian to receive the Star Asia Award.
Cruz will be seen on ‘Honor Thy Father’ when the film is screened at the NYAFF on the following dates: June 22-July 9, 2016 at Film Society of Lincoln Center (June 22-July 5) and SVA Theatre (July 6-July 9). Other Filipino films “Hamog” directed by Ralston Jover and “Apocalypse Child” by Mario Cornejo will also be screened at the filmfest.
