The National Basketball Association (NBA) tribute to recently retired star player, Vince Carter, includes art created by self-taught Filipino graphic designer, AJ Dimarucot.
Dimarucot is featured as the Philippines’ representative among the 15 artists from across the world in the American professional basketball league’s “Thank You Vince” tribute website.
The Philippines-based graphic designer who had worked with brands like Nike, Jordan Brand, Adidas, NFL, MLB, Coca-Cola, Star Wars, and Marvel, among many other collaborations, created a poster design of Vince Carter who retired in March after four decades of playing for the NBA – the first to achieve such feat.
Dimarucot’s poster design showed Carter wearing his Toronto Raptors Jersey #15 poised to do a tomahawk dunk, one of his signature hard court moves.
AJ Dimarucot went on social media on July 6, 2020, to share his newest project with the NBA.
“Absolutely blown away and honored to be one of 15 visual artists from all over the world to be chosen by the @nbacanada @nba to honor Vince Carter on his retirement. This is our gift to the world! You can print a 16×24 poster of our works! I did an illustration and a simple Vince-Canada mark,” wrote Dimarucot about the NBA tribute poster featuring Vince Carter who started his NBA career in 1998 with the Toronto Raptors.
The Raptors also tweeted about the tribute and included Dimarucot’s poster.
