Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez headlined the first episode of Musikahan Huntahan, the 2nd wave of the Facebook Live concert fundraiser of Ryan Cayabyab’s Bayanihan Musikahan.
The Concert King and Queen joined Ryan Cayabyab on Facebook Live on May 20, 2020, in the second season of the Bayanihan Musikahan which previously raised over 75 million pesos to assist frontliners and aid the poor during the coronavirus pandemic.
Martin and Pops sang for audiences from their respective homes while also under quarantine and showed the world while they are called the Concert King and Queen.
Cayabyab introduced Martin NIevera as the voice behind such Pinoy pop classics “Ikaw Ang Lahat Sa Akin” and “Be My Lady”.
The Filipino singer who led OPM artists in the singing of “Dakila Ka, Bayani Ka”, a tribute song for Frontliners and one of the celebrities who encouraged people to stay home, performed popular songs “Don’t Know What To Say (Don’t Know What To Do)”, “You”, and “I’ll Never Say Goodbye”.
In between performances, Nievera kept on encouraging everyone to donate.
“The most important thing about a moment like this is not so much who is in front but is the people behind. I understand Bayanihan Musikahan started with a handful of people and now there are so many people who are supporting not just those in front of the camera but behind the camera. So we should give them a round of applause,” Martin said.
Pops Fernandez joined Martin Nievera in performing a duet of “Tell Me”, a song originally performed and popularised by Joey Albert.
Pops, who was a judge on Hollywood’s “The World’s Best” CBS talent search show, also congratulated Bayanihan Musikahan and thanked artists who have participated.
“It doesn’t really matter how much you donate because as long as we donate, as we participate to give something it adds up to something and that’s why Bayanihan Musikahan was doing so well.”
Pops reminded everyone to “stay positive” while also encouraging everyone to keep donating, “We have to be positive. Para maka-move on tayo sa mga buhay-buhay natin.”
When asked by Mr. C what is the magic of Martin and Pops, Martin answered, “The magic of Pops and I – we were the best of friends before we became anything else.”
“I think that foundation is what keeps us together and of course the people who keep on wanting to see us together, even knowing we’re no longer the other meaning of together,” Nievera said, referring to their former relationship as husband and wife.
“When we perform and when we do shows it’s like it was just yesterday. That is what I called magic. You don’t have that kind of chemistry with anyone else,” added Martin.
Pops agreed with Martin. “I can actually keep Martin quiet sometimes. But it is the chemistry,” Pops joked.
Pops and Martin were also among the OPM stars who performed “We Heal As One”, a remake of the SEA Games anthem rededicated to the world in crisis.
