Undefeated Filipino boxer Mark “Magnifico” Magsayo’s spectacular win over Julio “Pollito” Ceja of Mexico has been voted the Knockout of the Year in the online polls conducted by the Premier Boxing Champions (PBC).
Magsayo scored a stunning victory after knocking out the former Mexican world champion in the tenth round of their August 2021 featherweight match held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
The PBC announced on social media that Magsayo won the year-end honor with a combined 42.4% of votes from fans on its Twitter and YouTube polls last December.
The Filipino champion’s brutal knockout of Ceja beat out similar stoppage wins by boxers Gervonta Davis over Mario Barrios, Jaron Ennis over Thomas Dulorme, and Anthony Dirrell over Marcos Hernandez.
The 26-year-old boxer from Leyte, who is trained by legendary Freddie Roach, was earlier hailed “Prospect of the Year” by the World Boxing Council (WBC) for his performance.
The PBC is a United States-based live television series that features prestigious boxing events around the globe and has named world bantamweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire as its Fighter of the Year.
Mark Magsayo is set to meet American Gary Russell Jr. to defend his WBC featherweight title in January 2022.
