Filipino volleyball star Marck Espejo will play in Japan’s V1 League this October for the Oita Miyoshi Weisse Adler team.
Five-time UAAP Most Valuable Player is the first-ever Pinoy to play in one of Asia’s premier volleyball leagues.
Espejo will compete in the Japanese V1 League for the upcoming 2018-2019 season.
“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. I really have to work harder talaga, double ko yung effort ko kasi yung level of competition sa Japan is different dito sa Philippines,” Espejo said.
Espejo dominated the UAAP with the Ateneo Blue Eagles for five years, winning three straight championships.
The high-leaping Espejo will wrap up the current PVL Reinforced conference for Cignal before leaving for Japan.
Japan’s volleyball league allows the hiring of two imports – as long as one of them is Asian.
He will return next year in time for the new PVL season and the 2019 Southeast Asian Games which the Philippines will host.
Oita Miyoshi was established in 1996. Weisse Adler means “White Eagle.”
The club played in the Philippines back in 2014, competing in the Asian Men’s Club Championships.
