The capital city of Manila is setting up innovative anti-flooding programs with the help of the technical expertise of the countries of Singapore and the United States.
Envoys from the two technologically-advanced countries met separately with Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno in early August to offer their assistance in the modernization and development programs of the Philippine capital.
United States Embassy officials visited Mayor Moreno to offer help in addressing the city’s flood monitoring and prevention program.
“I was asked what I wanted to prioritize. Sabi ko, ‘Once and for all, please, study Manila geographically with regard to flooding problems,” the Manila City chief revealed to media.
“So that once and for all, magkaroon ng drainage plans, catch basins and everything that will address the problem,” Mayor Moreno added.
Meanwhile, Singaporean Ambassador to the Philippines Gerard Ho revealed to media the results of their courtesy call on Mayor Moreno with Singapore pledging its technical expertise in sewage management, as well as traffic management and digital governance.
Singapore offered a study trip for the Manila mayor to learn about the first-world country’s policies and practices in city management.
Manila draws international travelers to visit the capital, home to the country’s heritage museums, performing arts centers, and many other tourist spots.
SEND cheers in the comments below for Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno and his team, welcoming international expertise to solve Manila’s perennial problems!
