The Makati Football Club Boys (Makati FC Boys) Under-14 squad will compete in the 2022 Borneo Football Cup in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, from October 2 to October 4.
Makati FC joins the return of the Borneo Cup after three years of hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as one of the 2019 champions in the U15s.
Makati FC is seeded in Group B and will compete against Turf City of Singapore, AYFI and Football West of Australia, and DPM Sports School of Malaysia.
To qualify for the Boys U14 semifinal, Makati FC must finish in the top two in Group B’s standings.
“First, JSSL. Next up; Borneo Cup. Good luck to our Makati FC players representing the Philippines!… We’re #MFCstrong and we’re never stopping #BorneoCup2022 #MakatiFC,” Makati FC announced on September 16.
Makati FC won the Boys U15 division in the 2019 Borneo Cup and took home the silver medals in the Boys U14 and U13 divisions.
Earlier this September, Makati FC finished third in the JSSL Singapore Professional Academy 7s in their first international contest in three years, capped by an incredible 3-0 victory over eventual Boys U14 champions SG Sports School.
In the same JSSL tourney, Davao City’s youth football team was hailed U15 champions of Asia’s largest youth tournament.
The Quezon City Football Club had previously won the 2019 Gothia Cup in China.
