The Philippines’ international airports in Mactan-Cebu and Iloilo have been named among the Best in Asia in the 2019 Sleeping in Airports survey results released in October.
The Best Airports of 2019 ranked Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) in 16th spot and the Iloilo International Airport (ILO) in 18th place among Asia’s best in the annual survey published on October 19.
The Philippines’ two airports are viewed by travelers among the top airports which have these in common: plenty of seating, rest areas, a good amount of food options, helpful staff and efficient check-in, and security procedures.
The Sleeping in Airports survey asked travelers to rate airports worldwide based on their overall airport experience using the following factors:
- Comfort (Gate seating, rest zone availability, etc.)
- Services, facilities & things to do
- Food options
- Immigration/security
- Customer service
- Navigation & ease of transit
- Cleanliness
- Sleepability
“The best thing about each of these airports is their willingness to improve on already top-notch facilities. Many airports are renovating their terminals and some are getting more innovative, with the aim of making the airport a destination in itself,” said the Sleeping in Airports report on the 2019 Best Airports.
The multi-awarded Mactan-Cebu International Airport Terminal 2 has been hailed as the Philippines’ first resort airport terminal. Spanning 65,500 square meters, MCIA Terminal 2 is a three-story building that promotes Cebu province as a tourist destination with interiors designed by world-renowned Filipino architects and designers Kenneth Cobonpue, Budji Layug, and Royal Pineda. MCIA, designed with environment-friendly architecture, had also initiated a plastics-free dining operation.
MCIA has been innovating in its services to terminal passengers with welcome hugs and living statues.
Iloilo International Airport has been praised as “the best-looking and most-efficient airport with…. beautiful gardens and water features interwoven throughout” in its interiors.
Both Philippine airports have been on the Sleeping in Airports list prior to the 2019 Best Airports edition.
