Filipino actor Louise Abuel successfully raised the Philippine flag in Bangladesh after winning the Best Actor Award at the Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF).
The 16-year-old lead star of the award-winning indie film “Edward” bested his co-nominees and older actors from other countries to bag his first international acting award from the DIFF held from January 11 to 19, 2020.
The ABS-CBN Star Magic actor shined with his impressive acting performance for the titular character of the movie “Edward”, an official entry to the 2019 Cinemalaya Film Festival where it won three awards including Special Jury Prize, Best Production Design, and Best Supporting Actress for Ella Cruz.
Directed by Thop Nazareno, the coming of age film “Edward” tells the story of a young lad who makes the hospital his playground and learns about puppy love and familial love while taking care of his ailing father.
“NANALO SI EDWARD!!!” the Cinemalaya Facebook page announced in its post on January 20.
“Louise Abuel won best actor for his role as Edward at the recently concluded Dhaka International Film Festival!!!
“Congratulations Louise, Direk Thop, and the team! 👏👏👏”
One of the film producers, Ferdy Lapuz, accepted Abuel’s trophy at the festival’s awarding ceremony.
Louise Abuel now joins the roster of Filipino actors who recently brought pride to the Philippines after winning international recognition in their respective movies:
Seasoned actress and celebrity chef Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo was hailed best actress for the movie Mindanao at the Cairo International Film Festival in December 2019.
GMA Kapuso drama actor Martin del Rosario clinched the Best Leading Male Performance at the Asian TV Awards in January 2020 for the film “Born Beautiful.”
