A charitable store in the city of Las Piñas in Metro Manila has gone viral on social media after giving away free essential groceries to needy Filipinos.
Lovely Sotto, a volunteer at the “free store”, shared in a Facebook post on April 9, 2021, about the initiative which now offers essential goods without charge to the public.
“Get everything here for free! Walang babayaran kahit piso,” the free store announced.
According to Sotto, the store by the religious organization Members Church of God International (MCGI) in Pamplona Tres, Las Piñas is available to people of all ages who are free to take home what they need to get through difficult times.
Sotto lauded Filipino citizens who chose to stay considerate of others while taking free groceries from the store in the now-viral post which has been shared on social media over 29,000 times.
“Nakakatuwa yung iba na pumunta kanina kasi sinasabi nila “Bibilisan ko lang po kumuha para po makakuha rin yung iba.” Kahit hirap na sa buhay, iniisip parin nila yung kapwa,” Sotto adds.
The MCGI Free Store also has branches nationwide and all are open to the public, explains Sotto.
As of this writing, the Facebook post by Lovely Sotto has garnered more than 36,000 reactions and 5,000 comments from Filipino netizens who praised the humanitarian act for helping out the needy amid the coronavirus pandemic.
Charitable stores like the Binthau Bakeshop in Rizal have been giving away free bread and personal protective equipment (PPE) to frontliners while the province remained under lockdown to stop the spread of coronavirus disease.
Good deeds launched by Filipinos during the global Covid-19 pandemic include the community-run kitchens of the “Kusinang Bayan” program which are feeding the residents of Sitio San Roque in Quezon City during the reimposition of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and Gretchen Ho’s bike-for-workers donation drive.
