Filipino rapper Matthaios has collaborated with Southeast Asian artists Raisa, YonnyBoii, and SPRITE to release the trilingual song “Trust Again” for Walt Disney’s latest feature film, “Raya and the Last Dragon.”
Walt Disney Studios announced the new “Raya”-inspired track on March 12, 2021, which is sung in three different languages and references traditional cultural elements from Southeast Asian nations.
“New song ‘Trust Again’ inspired by Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon and sung by artists from 4 nations – Raisa, Matthaios, Sprite, and our local rising star, Yonnyboii,” Walt Disney Studios wrote.
In a Twitter post, Filipino singer-songwriter Matthaios shared his newest milestone to fans which is the first multi-territorial music collaboration of its kind released for Disney.
“Disney Boy Matthaios….. unlocked!” Matthaios tweeted.
Titled “Trust Again”, the song revolves around the film’s central themes of trust and friendship. It stars Disney’s first-ever Southeast Asian princess voiced by Vietnamese-American film actress Kelly Marie Tran.
The song also incorporates phrases from Filipino, Indonesian, Malaysian and Thai cultures. Rapper Matthaios even makes a reference to Filipino combat style “Arnis” in his verse which is Raya’s choice of weapon in the movie.
The new track follows the release of KZ Tandingan’s “Gabay”, the first Filipino-language Disney song. “Trust Again” was released on digital platforms on March 12, 2021.
