In celebration of National Women’s Month, the Philippines’ local agencies are spearheading activities that aim to inspire and empower Filipinas of all ages to achieve gender equality.
The month of March is designated as Women’s Role in History Month in the Philippines, according to Proclamation No. 227 series 1988. March 8 is National Women’s Day (RA 6949 series 1990).
The Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) leads the annual National Women’s Month Celebration with the 2021 edition carrying the theme “Juana Laban sa Pandemya, Kaya!” which serves as a tribute, a platform, and a call to action that highlights the extraordinary roles of ordinary Juanas in society as trailblazers and harbingers of change.
Government agencies, private institutions, civil society organizations, and local government units are encouraged to address the continuing and emerging issues that hamper women’s empowerment and access to equal opportunities.
Here are the following events organized by the PCW and the National Parks Development Committee (NPDC) for the 2021 National Women’s Month Celebration:
The national monument of Dr. Jose Rizal in Manila will light up in purple to honor National Women’s Month this March.
NPDC shared that the month-long calendar of events lined up for the celebration also includes an online concert, yoga sessions, and empowering talks for Filipinas, among others.
The Manila city government and the NPDC recently held the “Stop and Salute Monthly Flag Ceremony” in Luneta Park, Manila on March 1, 2021.
A virtual flag-raising ceremony will be streamed on the NPDC’s official Facebook page to mark National Women’s Day on March 8.
