Leyte’s Purisima “Lock Bridge” inspired by Pont des Arts bridge in Paris, France was opened to the public and tourists on Valentine’s Day.
The community of Guindapunan in Palo, Leyte in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines celebrated February 14, 2020, by officially opening the newly-transformed bridge over the Bangon River rapids.
The Leyte government staged an event called “PALOlove Locks at the Bridge” to showcase the bridge as a tourist attraction where lovers can attach metal locks as a token of their love, similar to what is done on the Pont des Arts bridge in Paris, France.
PALOlove activity head Van Matthew Rosales said the Purisimia bridge now welcomes tourists who can put up their couple metal locks with love messages or their names and then throw the lock keys into the Bangon river below.
“If you want a memorable and romantic experience with your special someone without going far and spending much, then this is the best place for you. The picturesque bridge is not only ideal for couples but also for families and friends,” Rosales said in the PNA report about Purisima Bridge.
Bridges that have been opened or are being constructed all over the Philippines are spurring tourism and economic activities for the locals, among them are the opened Kalibo Bridge that leads to Boracay Island in Aklan, the upcoming completion of the uniquely-designed Sacobia Bridge that leads to New Clark City, and the newly approved Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge over Manila Bay waters.
