The Philippines’ Lea Salonga continues to make waves in Hollywood, hitting the right spots with her starring role in the “Pretty Little Liars” spinoff series, Original Sin.
The series became one of the most popular shows on HBO Max after premiering in July and has received rave reviews from critics as well as fans of the original “Pretty Little Liars” series.
The series finale that was released in August 2022 ended with a cliffhanger, leaving viewers hopeful for a second season, and the return of Salonga’s character.

The accomplished actress-singer Broadway icon portrays Elodie Honrada, the overbearing mother of Minnie “Mouse” who is played by Filipino-American actress Malia Pyles in the show.
Following a trauma that occurred when Minnie was just a little girl, Elodie works overtime to keep her daughter safe. She is married to Shirley, played by Asian-American actress Kim Berrios Lin, and is one of Minnie’s queer Asian moms in the series.
The spin-off series, “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin”, introduces a brand new cast of “Little Liars” with a new story set in the fictional town of Millwood.
The dark, coming-of-age drama follows the new Liars as they navigate their teenage years tormented by an unknown assailant who makes them pay for the secret sin their parents committed two decades ago.
Salonga revealed in media interviews about her excitement at being cast in the popular series.
“I auditioned not expecting to get anything and then I get word about a week later, my manager calls me at three o’clock in the morning and says: I need your advice, and I said, what kind of advice do you need? He’s like, I have to tell a client that she just booked a TV series, so how do I do that?”
“I totally freaked out and it was crazy. I started screaming and I started calling people and started getting ready to head off,” Salonga recalls in an interview with CNN Philippines’ Rico Hizon.
The Original Sin series also stars Elena Goode, Chandler Kinney, Maia Reficco, Bailee Madison, Zaria, Pyles, Alex Aiono, Mallory Bechtel, and Sharon Leal, another actress of Filipino heritage on the show, among others.
The original “Pretty Little Liars” series also starred Filipino-American actress Shay Mitchell, Salonga’s niece.
Lea Salonga marked her return to acting in film and television co-starring with fellow Miss Saigon star Eva Noblezada in “Yellow Rose“, a musical drama film about the life of Filipino immigrants in the United States.
