La Salle Greenhills High School (LSGH HS) students brought home 284 medals and 4 trophies from the World Scholars Cup (WSC) 2017 Athens Global Round.
The LSGH’s big medal haul was accomplished by 15 Junior and 16 Senior High School individuals and their teams which competed in 4 events against some 1,800 delegates from 40 countries.
The Philippine delegates answered the WSC Scholar’s Challenge, a 120-item multiple choice exam on the 6-subject curriculum spanning from myths to statistics, artichokes, and more.
The high school students also had to “survive three rigorous rounds of debate, a session of collaborative essay writing, and the Scholar’s Bowl, a team-based event where time is precious and all the subjects are interconnected,” according to the LSGH release which posted the full medal tally.
Top teams from the Athens Global Round will prequalify for the Tournament of Champions at Yale University to be held in November, along with top teams from the Hanoi round held in June, and from the Cape Town round in August.
The WSC 2017 LSGH winning delegates were trained by LSGH faculty, Karen Anne Beltran, Dr. Evangeline Panganiban, and Gello Marie De Jesus and her debate team, who are mostly alumni of Batch 2017.
