The beauty of Palawan will be showcased once again to international audiences very soon.
South Korean Survivor-style show “Laws of The Jungle” was reported on January 8, by Korean-content publication Koreaboo, to be filming in the Philippines’ renowned island of Palawan this year.
The concept of the show features various Korean celebrities sent to remote locations around the world and filmed as they attempt to survive life in the wilderness.
Former Wanna One member Kim Jaehwan, Lovelyz’s Yein, Cosmic Girls’ Dayoung together with a volleyball player, Kim Yo Han, former soccer player Lee Youngpyo and basketball player Woo Ji Won will join the cast in the Philippine episode.
Korean online news article Soompi wrote that popular entertainers Yang Se Hyung and Lee Sang Joon, actor Song Jin Woo, actress, and T-ara member Eunjung, actress Lee Chae Young, and trot singer Jin Hae Sung will also be taking part in the trip with Chief Kim Byung Man.
Filipino fans are excited to see their idols filming in Palawan. In the Twitter post of Koreaboo @tyrantaehyung thanked the producers, staff, and directors for choosing the country. Another user @Xica1019 said that her mom loves the show. Meanwhile, in the Facebook post of Koreaboo, FB user Arielle Mika Baradi commented “so happy to see them appreciate Palawan’s beauty”.
Fans also urged the staff and cast of the show to do in-depth research on the place, abide by the laws of Palawan, and respect wildlife and sea creatures.
Among them is FB user Pamela Briones who commented “I will be happy as long as the staff and cast obey the law. I don’t want another incident to happen” and Twitter user @Once_forever who replied, “I hope they did some research and studied the culture on that place so the accident before won’t happen again”.
The show was involved in a controversy that happened in July 2019 when actress Lee Yeol Eum faced jail time after removing giant clams, which is considered to be an endangered species in Thailand.
The archipelagic province of the Philippines has been praised for its beauty and made in the top lists of popular magazines and travel guides. In 2019 alone, Palawan was named one of the thirteen places where you can see the bluest waters.
The island landed in the top two spot of 15 Best Islands in the World released by Travel + Leisure Magazine, while popular Travel Guide Lonely Planet picked Palawan as one the best destinations in Asia Pacific. Palawan, one of Philippines’ Top Tourist Destinations, has also been on the top lists for Best Islands alongside Siargao, Boracay and Cebu if not in Asia, in the World.
International television program, Survivor South Africa shot their sixth season almost two years ago at El Nido, Palawan for a month.
The Philippines’ last frontier, was also featured in the first ever regional cruise-themed television program produced by the Asia Cruise Cooperation and the Department of Tourism in 2018.
International celebrities have also praised Palawan. Among them are Netflix star Shay Mitchell who enjoyed her stay, Katheryn Winnick who fell in love with the Island, The Wasp Evangeline Lilly, who fondly remembers living in Palawan, KPop Idol Sandara Park who has visited Palawan many times, and Casper heartthrob Devon Sawa who recently visited Palawan, Cebu, and Manila.
