The Philippines’ two largest television networks, GMA and ABS-CBN, earned multiple nominations at the 2020 New York Festival’s “World’s Best TV and Films” Competition.
The GMA Kapuso and ABS-CBN Kapamilya networks bagged a total of 17 nominations for their TV productions.
GMA Network received 9 nominations, the highest number of nominations for the Philippines, mostly from its News and Public Affairs Programs.
Here are the GMA Kapuso TV programs and the categories in which they are nominated:
1. Stand For Truth (reportage on Hong Kong protest) – Coverage of Continuing News Story
2. State of the Nation with Jessica Soho (Luzon earthquake coverage) – Best Newscast Category
3. The Atom Araullo Specials (“Babies4Sale.PH” episode) – Best Investigative Report Category
4. The Atom Araullo Specials (“The Patient Is Out” epsiode) – Human Concerns Category
4. Born To Be Wild (Big Catch Feature) – Climate Change & Sustainability Category
5. Brigada (“Aeta Squadron/Female Spies” episode) – History & Society Category
6. Investigative Documentaries (“Tulaylay” feature) – Social Issue Category
7. Reporter’s Notebook (“Project Pilipinas: Medical Facility” episode) – Social Issues category
8. GMA Program Support Department’s TV spot (Bonifacio Day) – Best Graphic Design/Promotion/Open and IDs Category
Meanwhile, the ABS-CBN Kapamilya Network clinched 8 nominations for its News and Current Affairs programs:
1. Alab/Alaze (volunteer firefighters) – Heroes Category
2. Ang Babae ng Balangiga/The Woman of Balangiga – History and Society Category
3. HIV Rising – Health/Medical Information Category
4. Invisible – Human Concerns Category
5. Local Legends (“Glass Sculptor” feature) – The Arts Category
6. Local Legends(“Environmental Artist” feature) – Heroes Category
7. #NoFilter (“Tao Po” episode) – Human Concern Category
8. Red Alert (“Tigdas (Measles)” episode) – Health/Medical Information Category
In last year’s edition of the New York Festival, Atom Araullo led GMA Network’s medal haul after winning 4 medals (2 silver and 2 bronze), while ABS-CBN bagged 2 medals (1 gold and 1 bronze).
This year’s New York Festival awarding ceremony will be held on April 21 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
