Kammerchor Manila has once again brought glory to the Philippines by securing the First, Second, and Third Prizes across different categories at the 60th Seghizzi International Choral Singing Competition in Italy, continuing their global winning streak.
The Seghizzi competition witnessed Kammerchor Manila clinching the 1st Prize in the Spiritual and Gospel, Pop, and Jazz event, and also secured the 2nd Prize in the Folk and Traditional category. The Filipino choir won the 3rd Prize in the Grand Prix of the competition held from July 20-24, 2023, at the Verdi Theater in Gorizia province.
The 33rd edition of the Seghizzi Grand Prix attracted nine choirs from various countries including Canada, China, Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Ukraine, the USA, and the Philippines. This year’s competition marked the 150th anniversary of the birth of composer and conductor Cesare Augusto Seghizzi, after whom the competition was named.
Following their victory at the 2023 Choir of the World competition where they won the coveted Pavarotti Trophy, Kammerchor Manila’s latest achievement adds more laurels to their already decorated hat. Celebrating the triumphant tour, the group shared its joy and appreciation on social media, expressing gratitude for the support it received during its UK-Europe Tour, “Resurgence.”
Known as one of the premier church choirs in the Philippines, Kammerchor Manila was founded in 1992 in Quezon City. The non-profit choral group, under the guidance of Anthony G. Villanueva, has earned acclaim for their performances that encompass a wide spectrum of musical genres, from madrigals to contemporary music, and sacred to pop music.
Kammerchor Manila’s commitment to musical excellence, friendship, and service to God has not only elevated the level of choral music but has also inspired countless other choirs. With its winning spree showing no signs of slowing down, Kammerchor Manila is ready to make its next stops in Torrevieja and Barcelona, Spain this July 25-31, further strengthening its musical footprint. Torrevieja is especially memorable to the Filipino choral group where it won 1st Prize in the Habaneras category at the 63rd Certamen Internacional de Habaneras y Polifonia.
Indeed, with each award and recognition, Kammerchor Manila continues to wave the Filipino flag high on the global stage, becoming an enduring source of national pride.
