JUST IN: The University of Santo Tomas (UST) TeleTigers Esports Club won the AcadArena National Cup MLBB Tournament on Sunday and earned the right to represent the Philippines in the PVP Esports Campus Championships 2020 Asian regionals.
The UST Teletigers took home a total of PHP 30,000 and an additional PHP 10,000 Campus Grant on August 23, 2020, in the online competition’s Grand Finals streamed on Facebook.
UST won the Esports AcadArena National Cup Mobile Legends Bang Bang Tournament championship after its undefeated run from semis to finals.
The UST TeleTigers bested the Warlocks Vincere of Malayan Colleges-Laguna, Tamaraws of Far Eastern University, and PUP Isko of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines.
The UST TeleTigers League of Legends also had an undefeated run to the playoffs.
The AcadArena National Cup was built not just for the competition but also aims to promote Esports culture and responsible gaming in Philippine schools and educational institutions.
The Thomasian Esports team will be Team Philippines in the upcoming Southeast Asia-wide PVP Esports Campus Championships which will take place this September 2020.
The Philippines has continued displaying its excellence in Esports after it clinched the gold at the sports’ debut in the Southeast Asian Games in December 2019.
E-Gilas Philippines made a 5-game sweep to clinch its 1st FIBA Esports Open championship in June while Neon Esports Philippines toppled Vietnam to snag the Dota 2 title in Razer SEA Invitational in July.
Lyceum University had recently pioneered the Philippines’ first E-sports college degree.
