Filipino innovation “Pinoy California” mobile application went live today, April 1, 2020, with features that address the needs of communities in the face of the recent California statewide lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Pinoy California, a community initiative of Obra Incorporated and founded by South Korea-based social entrepreneur Nash Ang, was previously a website-based ordering platform. The group put up the mobile app version to continue supporting Asian-American small-scale business owners while servicing communities in need of food and grocery items deliveries.
The Pinoy California Android and iOS platform mobile app can locate nearby Asian stores and restaurants where users can order goods to be delivered directly to their homes.
The geo-located chat feature allows neighbors to socialize without physically meeting, in what the group refers to as “a social distancing solution to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 while letting stores continue operation.”
Pinoy California’s dashboard also allows business owners to manage their store, to create offers, delivery options, and organize online events.
“With social distancing tightening, we support Asian-American Business Owners by providing them Pinoy California mobile platform to keep their small-scale businesses running. Please take care of yourself. We’re all in this together, for the love of the Fi-Am community in America,” the Pinoy California site declares as its mission.
