The Philippines’ bet, Kathleen Paton, has successfully raised the country’s flag in Egypt after winning this year’s Miss Eco International crown.
The Filipino-Australian beauty from Aklan province in the Visayas Region was hailed the best among 40 candidates from all over the world to win the crown for the Philippines during the grand coronation held on March 17 (March 18, Manila time) at Jolie Ville Resort & Spa Kings Island Luxor.
Kathleen aced the speech round for the Top 10 contenders where she talked about the topic of water pollution.
“Water pollution is a huge issue in the Philippines. A lot of Filipinos actually don’t have access to clean drinking water. And I believe it is a right of every single human being, especially to my Filipinos [countrymen], to have access to water, to clean water,” the 24-year-old Filipina actress-model shared.
“Therefore, I aim to work with a company called 100 For All to give access to water through giving out free water filtration systems not just to one family but to the whole community. Thank you.”
She even wowed the judges and the viewers during the Top 5 Question And Answer portion where she answered the question: “As a titleholder you’re a public figure. Do you think it’s important to stay neutral on controversial social issues or to use your title to promote your own belief and why?”
“Wow! It is a tough question in all honestly because we are at the forefront of opinions and negativity every single day especially on social media,” Paton responded.
“I do believe as a leader and as someone who is very influential in society, we sometimes have to use our voice in a very neutral state of mind because we have a very influential position,” Kathleen continued.
“But in doing so, we also need to use our voice in order to motivate other people to stand up for what is right. And I think that takes a lot of good moral compass. Thank you. Shukran.”
